Aboriginal Cultural Experience
The tour begins at the Wirnda Barna Art Centre where you can view a variety of Aboriginal Artwork including paintings, ceramics and jewellery.
Wirnda Barna Art Centre (Wirnda Barna) is a place where you can learn about the rich cultural heritage of the local Badimia People.
After visiting Wirnda Barna we will set off with our Aboriginal tour guide on a tag-a-long journey to ‘The Granites’, ‘Gayarra’ of Mount Magnet which is 7 kilometres out of town.
Mount Magnet is known for its remarkable granite outcrops and breakaways, this breakaway country (ngarn galy – ngarn galy) is one of the world’s oldest landscapes. You will be introduced to the incredible geological features of the region, giving you insights into the country’s 2.6 billion years old landscape. These areas are of great significance to the Badimia People, with many of them being associated with Dreamtime stories and cultural ceremonies.
At ‘The Granites’ the tour guide will explain Aboriginal traditions and interpret the abundant native bush foods and medicines. You will learn how local Aboriginal People have been living in harmony with the harsh but beautiful Australian Outback for tens of thousands of years.
Whether you're a visitor seeking an authentic cultural experience, or simply interested in broadening your knowledge on Aboriginal heritage, this journey around Mount Magnet is a must-do. It's an opportunity to see Australia through a different lens and to gain insights that are often lost amidst our busy modern lives.
The tour ends back at the Wirnda Barna Art Centre and takes approximately 2 - 3 hours.
Bookings are essential for this experience, bush cooked damper, tea & coffee is supplied.
